A champagne house deserves more than a branded umbrella. For GH Mumm and its parent company Pernod Ricard, Inhouse's experiential sister company NightVision, with creative direction from Aidan Hart, designed a set of bespoke outdoor lounges that brought the nautical elegance of the GH Mumm brand to life at Shimmy Beach Club on Cape Town's V&A Waterfront.
The brief was to create something that felt genuinely luxurious, was fully portable for future activations, and could hold its own against the glamour of the location. The response was a catamaran-inspired lounge structure: waterproof aluminium frames that can be disassembled and reassembled quickly, floors in reconstructed plastic composite with a sleek faux-timber finish that resists stain, rot, and salt air. The roof is a stretched canopy that creates the unmistakable silhouette of a yacht at rest. Upholstery is in high-end yachting fabric; curtains carry the GH Mumm branding and provide shade and privacy; a concealed LED system delivers atmospheric lighting after dark.
At the centre of each lounge sits a custom-made, oversized cork table, a witty, brand-true piece that doubles as a sculptural object and a conversation starter. The crisp red and white of the GH Mumm palette runs through every detail, from the colour of the cushions to the shape of the interior space itself, which references the form of a champagne cork. The result is an activation environment that is as considered as any permanent interior, fully portable, fully on-brand, and fully at home beside the sea.
