About the Project

Inhouse Design team transformed the John Brown offices in Cape Town into a dynamic and engaging workspace. Moving beyond a traditional reception area, our design created a shared space that fosters collaboration, creativity, and connection, showcasing our expertise in innovative interior design solutions. The heart of the John Brown office interior design features an open-plan kitchen complemented by a breakaway dining table and seating. Directly opposite, a series of three eating pods, with high-back booth seating in the company’s signature teal, encourages staff to socialize and engage during mealtimes. This thoughtful layout by Inhouse Design Studio promotes informal interaction, vital for a vibrant work culture. Beyond the dining area, we conceptualized an indoor ‘campsite’ – a multi-functional lounge area designed to bring the outside in. Kitted out with faux grass, picnic-like seating, timber plant boxes, and canary yellow wooden tree-trunks, this space is a delightful visual feast. Brightly hued lounge seating, a cartoon-covered ‘bed’, and whimsical birdcage light fixtures add to its charm. This unique interior design element serves as a versatile informal lounge, communal gathering space, and waiting area, allowing staff to revitalize, reconnect, and refresh, thereby catalyzing a creative and happy working environment. Adjoining the ‘campsite’ is an unconventional meeting room that truly embodies bespoke interior design: an oversized weaver’s nest. Constructed from timber fins and clad in strips of pine, this striking feature takes center-stage, referencing John Brown’s fondness for birds. According to Inhouse Design Studio designer Jenine Bruce, "The nest was influenced by the company’s incorporation of birds within their branding. So, we chose to use this in our design by taking it a step further and building a nest which creates a ‘safe’ and intimate meeting spot for employees." This project highlights Inhouse Design Studio’s ability to deliver imaginative and functional interior design solutions that reflect a client’s brand identity and foster a positive work environment in Cape Town. Our approach as a workspace expert ensures spaces are not just aesthetically pleasing but also highly engaging and user centric.
